A man wanted by Italian authorities was arrested on January 29 at the National Police office in Girona. The arrested man, who had been living in the city since 2021, is wanted to serve a sentence for an alleged drug trafficking offense
Identification during administrative procedures
The suspect went to the police headquarters to request a name change and renew his residence permit. During the verification of his personal data and fingerprints, the officers detected that there was an international arrest warrant, detention, and extradition order against him issued by the Italian justice system
The violent crimes group of the Provincial Police Brigade of Girona was alerted to intervene in the arrest. The agents confirmed the individual's identity before proceeding with the arrest.
Residence in Girona and judicial situation
According to police information, the man had settled in Girona after leaving Italy before a final sentence was issued for drug trafficking. Since then, he remained in the city, where he tried to regularize his administrative situation
The detainee has been remanded in custody by order of the Central Investigating Court of the National Court. He remains awaiting the resolution of the extradition process requested by the Italian judicial authorities
