Inaction regarding wild boars in Cadaqués triggers a claim for 70,000 euros for an injured minor

The family of the minor injured by a wild boar on Platja Gran in Cadaqués on August 2nd is claiming approximately 70,000 euros from the City Council for the injuries and after-effects she has suffered since that attack, which occurred next to the Casino and in front of the Boia bar.

The claim maintains that the council was aware of the problem of wild boars coming down into the urban area, especially in summer, but did not prevent the attack. The mayor, Pia Serinyana, even admitted at the time that the municipality had a "serious problem" with these animals.

The family maintains that municipal inaction led to injuries and after-effects

The girl was 10 years old when she was injured around nine in the evening on the beach. According to the family's account, she tried to protect a six-year-old child at the moment the animal came down into the urban area and struck her with its tusk.

The goring caused deep wounds to the upper part of her leg, a few millimeters from the femoral artery. Since then, she has suffered physical and psychological after-effects, including a hypertrophic scar and a post-traumatic stress disorder.

Xavier Coca Verdaguer, the family's lawyer, assures that the case is not closed for the minor or her family.

The lawyer adds that the recovery has also affected the family's relationship with the municipality. In another of his statements, he maintains that it has taken years to be able to go up to Cadaqués again.

The City Council reopened the file, but maintains administrative silence

After the attack, the City Council opened an ex officio file that was provisionally archived at the family's request. It was later reopened after receiving the claim from the municipal insurer, although the family complains that they have not received a formal response.

Coca Verdaguer places the origin of the next judicial step there. The lawyer states that if a response is not received before the summer, he will file a contentious appeal against the council.

The claim attributes the damage to the municipality's lack of action in the face of a presence of wild boars that, in the family's opinion, was known. Coca Verdaguer summarizes this position in another statement directed at the council's actions.

Rural Agents and Local Police activated measures after the attack

After the incident, the Rural Agents and the City Council agreed to capture with trap boxes and teleanesthesia to try to curb the presence of animals in the urban area. The Local Police, in addition, reinforced surveillance on compliance with the ordinance that prohibits feeding wild boars.

The family understands that these actions came too late. Their claim sets the compensation they demand from the council at around 70,000 euros for an attack that occurred on August 2 in Platja Gran de Cadaqués.
