More than 150 secondary school students and teachers gathered this afternoon at the Gerona Kindergarten to remember the victims of Nazism. The event served as a collective tribute on a day marked by educational and civic reflection.

The call commemorated the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp. This historical episode maintains a direct connection with the capital of Girona due to the suffering of its neighbors.

16 people from Gerona who were deported during World War II passed through the countryside. Their personal stories form the central axis around which this local memory revolves.

Young people read the testimonies

Students from the Jaume Vicens Vives, Montilivi, and La Salle high schools in Girona took the floor along with classmates from the Escola Pia de Salt. The teenagers read testimonies that recover the voice of those who survived the Nazi horror.

"We claim the importance of working on historical memory in classrooms" - Triángulo Azul Association of Figueras

The participation of the Triángulo Azul Association of Figueras underscored the need to keep this teaching alive among new generations. Its presence brought a vindicatory context to the event organized by the local educational fabric.

Teachers promote remembrance

The organization was run by DEMD of Girona. This group of teachers is linked to the Democratic Memorial of Catalonia and has been coordinating these initiatives for years.

The commitment of the teaching staff guarantees that the legacy of the deported does not fall into institutional or social oblivion. Education thus becomes the main tool for preserving the dignity of the victims.
