The Civil Guard has arrested a 22-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman for their alleged involvement in 48 crimes of document forgery and as many crimes of usurpation of civil status. The police operation, codenamed OP. RECBIN, dismantled a network that used the stolen identity of a doctor to obtain controlled medications.

A pharmacy in La Litera set off the alarms

The device was launched in early March after officers received a report from a pharmacy in La Litera. Healthcare personnel alerted about the repeated presentation of medical prescriptions that showed clear signs of tampering or forgery.

The investigators confirmed that the detainees impersonated a registered doctor in Madrid. With this false cover, they obtained prescriptions for Zolpidem, a potent sedative drug indicated exclusively for treating severe cases of insomnia.

The plot operated with fluidity between provinces. The arrests occurred on April 15 when the ROCA Team of Barbastro and the Binéfar Post surprised the suspects in the act. It happened inside a pharmacy in Binéfar, where the agents seized 30 tablets of the narcotic.

Forty frauds concentrated in Lleida

The final balance of the investigation attributes to the couple the carrying out of 48 fraudulent dispensations. These actions were distributed among thirteen different pharmaceutical establishments spread between Aragon and Catalonia.

  • Eight prescriptions were processed in five pharmacies in the regions of Cinca Medio and La Litera, in the province of Huesca.
  • Forty dispensations were executed in eight pharmacies in the city of Lleida and neighboring towns in the regions of Segrià and La Noguera.

The detainees reside in Lleida and in the region of La Noguera. After their identification and arrest, the ROCA Team of Barbastro immediately made them available to the judicial authorities.

The Court of Instruction number 1 of Monzón received the police proceedings and agreed to provisional release with charges for both investigated parties. The case remains open while criminal responsibilities for the extensive series of forgeries are being determined.
