The Local Police of Banyoles has closed an intensive informative campaign aimed at users of personal mobility vehicles. During the ten days that the initiative spanned, between April 20 and 30, agents informed a total of 174 people about their legal obligations.

Sanctions activated in May

The warning period has concluded. Infractions for driving without mandatory civil liability insurance or without registering the corresponding vehicle will begin to be sanctioned this May.

The regulation in force since January ceases to have an exclusively preventive character to become enforceable with direct economic consequences for those who do not comply with the law.

The security forces highly value the development of this preventive action. Their priority has been to educate citizens before imposing economic penalties.

Fines of up to 800 euros

The amount of the sanctions varies according to the technical characteristics of the means of transport used by the offender. The severity of the fine depends on the weight and maximum speed of the vehicle.

  • Fines can amount to 350 euros for vehicles weighing less than 25 kilograms.
  • Penalties reach 800 euros in the case of vehicles weighing more than 25 kilograms and traveling at speeds exceeding 14 kilometers per hour.

To ensure the maximum dissemination of these rules, the police distributed 430 explanatory infographics during the campaign. Officers also handled numerous citizen inquiries both at the police station and via telephone calls.

The strategy also included the educational field. In collaboration with all the secondary schools in the city, an informative letter was sent to the students' families to raise awareness among young users.
