The Girona demarcation will receive 7,765,737.15 euros in aid from the Catalan Water Agency to improve the high-level water supply. The resolution includes 110 grants for the province within a regional call for 27 million euros aimed at reinforcing the quantity and quality of the supply.
The distribution comes with a relevant difference between the approved funding and the actual pace of execution. The resolution sets the money for the actions, but it does not imply that all improvements will be immediate or that all projects are already in the construction phase.
Alt Empordà concentrates 49 grants and almost five million
Girona adds up to 75 beneficiary applicant entities, including town councils, consortia, and associations of municipalities. The set of actions reaches a budget of 11,449,433.21 euros, of which the Catalan Water Agency subsidizes 7,765,737.15 euros.
The region with the most weight in the resolution is l'Alt Empordà, which gathers 49 grants and 4,985,567.60 euros. At a distance appear La Selva, with 674,198.07 euros in eight grants, El Pla de l'Estany, with 469,735.06 euros in eight, and El Gironès, with 463,304.13 euros in 10.
Baix Empordà also appears, with 433,209.48 euros in 10 grants, and La Garrotxa, with 394,841.38 euros distributed in 17 grants.
Within l'Alt Empordà, the Consorci d'Aigües Costa Brava Girona will receive 1,043,643.16 euros to build a new water treatment plant that will treat water from the Portbou stream reservoir. The same consortium adds 600,000 euros to rehabilitate the Portbou dam outlets and 358,462.53 euros for a reverse osmosis plant aimed at reducing salinity in the underground supply intake.
In the same region, the Mancomunitat Intermunicipal d'Aigües de Garriguella, Vilajuïga, Pau, Palau-saverdera, Pedret i Marzà receives 600,000 euros to build a new drinking water tank and demolish the current one.
Sixty grants finance works and 50 cover project drafting
Most of the money goes to executive actions. Of the 110 grants awarded in the demarcation, 60 are for works and 50 for drafting projects.
The works concentrate 6,527,042.31 euros, while the projects add up to 1,238,694.84 euros. The difference explains why the most visible part of the plan depends on different schedules depending on the stage each action is in.
In La Selva, the renovation of the drinking water supply pipe in the Montbarbat development, in Maçanet de la Selva, has 531,689.71 euros to renovate the supply network. In Llagostera, the construction of a drinking water regulation tank in the Selva Brava development will receive 195,391.15 euros.
Further south on the provincial map, the project to reform the water treatment plant and construct the Ullà head tank will have 150,948.83 euros.
The grants approved for the Girona demarcation must be materialized between January 1, 2025, and January 8, 2029.
