A wind storm has left gusts of up to 100 km/h this Thursday in different parts of Catalonia, with special incidence in Tarragona and the Pyrenees. The Pedro storm, of Atlantic origin, has brought cold, precipitation, and intense wind to the western and northern peninsular, affecting the Catalan territory unevenly.
Strong wind in Tarragona and the Pyrenees
In the southern third, the strongest gusts have been recorded in Prades and los Ports, where the Mistral has reached 100 km/h. The wind has also been a protagonist in central Catalonia and in the southern counties of Barcelona, with maximum gusts of 80 km/h and average speeds between 30 and 40 km/h.
During the early morning, snow has made an appearance in the north, especially in the Pyrenees, where snow precipitation has remained throughout the day above 1,000 meters. In the province of Girona, La Garrotxa and Empordà have registered rain, although the Girona regions have remained sheltered from the wind.
Barcelona and Girona, with less impact
In Barcelona, the storm has only been noticeable due to the wind, with no significant precipitation. The regions of Girona have remained on the sidelines of the most intense gusts, with effects limited to occasional rain in specific areas.
From 1900 h, the wind has lost strength in most of the territory, although it is expected to intensify again between 200 h and 600 h in the morning. The maximum temperature recorded this Thursday has been 16ºC.
Forecast for Friday and the Weekend
For Friday, a windless day with prevailing sun is expected. During the night, a short-lived cold mass will affect Catalonia, although the wind will be restricted to the northern and southern extremes and will decrease after midday.
The Azores high will settle in Catalonia during the weekend and, according to forecasts, could remain until the end of the month. From Friday until at least Tuesday, sun is expected with some occasional clouds, which will mark a change from the instability of the last few hours.
