Teachers from the Girona regions are preparing a campout between Plaça Catalunya and the headquarters of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Girona for the night of Sunday to Monday, June 1st, on the eve of a new day of territorial strike in public education.
The protest adopts a festive and family-friendly format, but it is born as a measure of pressure on the Departament d'Educació. The Coordinadora d'Assemblees Educatives de les Terres Gironines has named the initiative "Colònies" and will keep it active from 5:00 PM on Sunday until the following day.
The campout will occupy the center of Girona from 5:00 PM on Sunday
The camp will be set up in a very visible spot in the city, between Plaça Catalunya and the delegation of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The choice of location places the protest at the doors of the regional administration in Girona and in the very city center.
With this action, the teaching collective wants to bring the mobilization to the streets hours before the work stoppage called for Monday. The call proposes a continuous presence throughout the night, something unusual in this type of protest in the educational sector in the city.
The Coordinadora proposes a protest with concerts, castells, and a popular meal
The program combines protest and leisure activities. The organization has planned family shows, concerts, castells, a popular meal, and the campout itself to give the event an open format for families and participants of different ages.
Among the announced names are Jordi Tonietti, Pelukass, and Minibús Intergal·làctic. Jordi i Malva, from the group Atrapasomnis, Ander Pardo, Joe Driffield, and Fetus will also participate.
The coordinator seeks to gain public visibility for the protest on the street before Monday's territorial strike, without limiting it to a conventional gathering. The chosen format makes the night before the work stoppage the focus of the mobilization.
The initiative will start on Sunday at 5:00 PM and the campout will continue until Monday, June 1st, with activities planned between Plaça Catalunya and the headquarters of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Girona.
