Girona closed February with 1,415 home sales, the highest figure for this month since 2007. The rebound consolidates the start of the year in the Girona regions, where the residential market totals 2,750 operations between January and February and is clearly above the records for the same period last year.
The volume of operations in February represents a 25.78% increase compared to the same month of the previous year, when 1,125 sales were recorded, according to data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística. It is one of the most notable increases in the Catalan region in a month that also leaves unprecedented levels since before the real estate crisis.
Predominance of second-hand housing
Of the total sales registered in Girona during February, 279 corresponded to new housing and 1,136 to second-hand housing. Most of the operations were also concentrated in the free market, with 1,367 properties, compared to 48 protected homes.
The balance of the first two months of the year maintains that upward trend. Girona accumulates 2,750 operations between January and February, 12.61% more than the 2,442 registered in the same period of the previous year.
Catalonia exceeds 10,000 sales in February
In Cataluña as a whole, 10,389 housing acquisitions were formalized in February, 6.4% more than in January. It is the first time since 2007 that the barrier of 10,000 operations has been exceeded in this month, in a context of strong activity both in new construction and in second-hand.
New home sales reached 2,177 across Catalonia, with a year-on-year growth of 17.5%. In parallel, 8,212 second-hand homes were sold, 3% more than a year ago and 10% more than in January.
Protected housing also rebounded. In February, 617 operations of this type were recorded in Cataluña, 30% more than last year and the highest level since 2019. In the free market, 9,772 homes were commercialized, the maximum registered since 2007.
Barcelona leads the volume and Tarragona recedes
Barcelona was the demarcation with the most movement, with 6,875 sales of flats and houses in February, its highest figure for this month since 2007. Lleida reached 645 acquisitions, also at its highest level since that same year.
Tarragona broke the upward trend and registered a fall of 11% compared to the previous year. Even so, it maintains the second highest figure of the last two decades for a month of February, which confirms that the Catalan market remains at high levels at the beginning of 2025.
