Girona's hotel and tourist accommodation sector received financing of 72.1 million euros from CaixaBank in 2025, representing an increase of 58.6% compared to the previous year, according to data published by the entity through its Hotels & Tourism line.

Girona registers the largest growth in tourist financing

The figure places Girona as one of the territories with the greatest dynamism in attracting resources for the tourism sector. The volume of credit granted in Spain as a whole reached 4.3 billion euros in 2025, an increase of 8.5% compared to 2024. The Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Madrid, the Canary Islands, and Andalusia concentrated the majority of the activity.

During the past year, more than 4,400 financing operations were formalized throughout the State, which represents an increase of 22.7% and more than 800 additional operations compared to the previous year. The credit portfolio associated with the tourist accommodation sector exceeded 10,000 million euros at the close of 2025 and served more than 13,400 clients.

Modernization and sustainability, main destinations of the funds

According to CaixaBank, the financing was mainly allocated to reform and modernization projects for establishments, acquisitions of accommodations, initiatives linked to innovation and sustainability, and treasury needs through working capital products. The entity's specialized support unit has more than 40 professionals focused on the hotel market and around 2,300 experts in business consulting spread across business and SME centers and offices.

Growth Forecasts for Tourism in 2026

The CaixaBank Research report, presented in January, forecasts that tourism in Spain will grow in 2026 with a 2.5% increase in the sector's GDP. In 2025, 97 million international arrivals were reached and a total spending of 135 billion euros. The weight of tourism could stand at 12.8% of GDP in 2026 and 12.9% in 2027, surpassing the 12.6% recorded in 2019.
