The Girona City Council opens this Wednesday, May 13, a new work session at the La Mercè Cultural Center. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 PM to gather citizen proposals on the future mobility model for Plaça Catalunya.

Participation closes its active phase on May 28

This meeting is part of a participatory process that began last March and has already involved 42 local entities and associations in the debate. Among the participants are the Diputació de Girona, the Universitat de Girona, the Col·legi d'Arquitectes, and the Capítol de la Catedral.

The official calendar marks May 28 as the deadline to finalize this phase of contributions. On that day, the proposal resulting from all the work sessions held so far will be presented.

"The transformation of Plaça Catalunya must be built from consensus and by listening to all the sensitivities of the city" - Isaac Sànchez, councilor for Mobility and Public Space, Girona City Council

The councilor defends that the intention of the executive is to make mobility compatible with economic activity and urban quality. The stated objective is to achieve a friendlier, more accessible, and safer environment for all users of public space.

The first measures will arrive in autumn 2026

The intervention in the square is included within the current government pact for the 2023-2027 period. The actions seek to analyze formulas for a more balanced and sustainable model that considers aspects such as circulation, accessibility, and commercial activity.

The council does not foresee implementing immediate changes after the collection of opinions. The application of the first measures derived from this study is planned for the autumn of 2026.
