The Girona City Council has requested an urgent meeting with the Territorial Services of Social Rights and Inclusion to address the critical situation at the Residència Creu de Palau. The call responds to alerts issued by relatives, residents, and workers of the center regarding growing difficulties in daily care.
The local administration demands clarity on the future of the facility and its direct implications on the city's public care network.
The council fears losing public spaces
The municipal government claims precise data about the planned reform that would transform part of the center into assisted living units. There is concern about the possible reduction of public residential and sociosanitary places available to the citizens of Girona.
Gemma Martínez, councilwoman of Ciutat que Cuida, has expressed her concern about the demographic impact. The councilwoman points out that the demand for welfare resources increases in parallel with the aging of the population and dependency rates.
"We are concerned that Girona may end up losing public residential and socio-sanitary spaces at a time when there is increasing aging, increasing dependency, and increasing need for care resources." - Gemma Martínez, councilor for Ciutat que Cuida, Girona City Council
The local executive also requests detailed information on compensation measures in the event of a hypothetical decrease in the center's capacity. Furthermore, he asks about the consequences that the disappearance of the current sociosanitary beds at Puig d'en Roca would have.
An extraordinary meeting of the participation body is requested
The City Council urges the immediate activation of the Residence Participation Council. This body integrates the center's management, representatives of the workers, families, users, and the council itself.
The current priority is to know the concrete actions for personnel reinforcement and healthcare reorganization. These measures should be applied urgently while the future structural reform of the building is defined and executed.
