Girona is among the Spanish cities with the lowest probability of registering minor traffic accidents, according to the latest data published by the Asociación Empresarial de las Aseguradoras. The Girona capital presents a risk 17.33% lower than the national average in this type of accidents.

Girona stands out for its low minor accident rate

The report places Girona alongside other municipalities such as Orihuela, El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, Zaragoza, and Barakaldo, all of them with risk percentages lower than the State as a whole. In the case of Barcelona, the reduction is 20.27%. In Girona, the probability of suffering or causing a minor accident remains below the average, which places it in a prominent position in the national ranking.

Regarding serious accidents, the city of Girona does not appear among the first 20 localities with the lowest incidence. In this section, Huesca, San Sebastián and Sant Cugat del Vallès stand out, with decreases exceeding 37% compared to the state average.

Economic balance of the incidents in the province

During the last year, insurers processed 134,197 accidents in the province of Girona, with a total expenditure of 145,315,730 euros. The average cost per claim in the Girona territory stands at around 1,083 euros.

At a state level, in 2024 close to 11 million car incidents were handled, with a total expenditure of 10,189 million euros and an average cost of 920 euros per incident. The frequency of handling is high, with an average of one incident every three seconds.

Roadside assistance and types of compensation

The most common service is roadside assistance, which represents 40.27% of claims and has an average cost of 149 euros. The highest compensations correspond to bodily civil liability, with an average of 7,218 euros, and to vehicle fires, with 4,436 euros, although these cases represent a smaller part of the total.

The X-ray of accident rates places Girona as one of the capitals with less exposure to minor accidents, while the average cost per accident in the province remains above the state average.
