The province of Girona closed 2025 with the highest rate of burglaries in the entire State, both in homes and in establishments and other facilities. Last year, 2,538 burglaries in homes were reported, which represents a rate of 308.3 burglaries per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure places Girona ahead of Alicante, which registered 5,920 burglaries and a rate of 296.0, and Tarragona, with 2,421 burglaries and a rate of 280.2.
Girona leads the state ranking of robberies with force
In the global count of robberies with force, which includes homes, establishments and other facilities, Girona added 3,525 reported incidents in 2025, with a rate of 428.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. Tarragona was the second province in the state ranking with 3,246 robberies and a rate of 375.6, followed by Alicante with 7,205 robberies and a rate of 360.3. Girona surpassed Tarragona by more than 50 rate points and Alicante by almost 70 points.
The total number of robberies with force in the province was 0.8% lower than in 2024, when 3,552 cases were recorded. However, robberies with force in homes increased by 0.7% compared to the previous year, going from 2,520 to 2,538 reported cases.
Concentration of robberies in municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants
Ten municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants concentrated 34.8% of the home burglaries registered in the province. Banyoles, Blanes, Figueres, Girona, Lloret de Mar, Olot, Palafrugell, Roses, Salt and Sant Feliu de Guíxols totaled 882 home burglaries. In the global count, these municipalities reached 1,299 burglaries, which represents 36.9% of the provincial total.

Robberies in evening-night slots and police reinforcement
During the last months of 2025, home robberies occurred in evening-night time slots in areas such as Gironès and Empordà. The Mossos d"Esquadra have intensified patrolling and controls in these points, in addition to reinforcing investigation tasks to counteract criminal activity.

The police reinforcement has materialized with the activation of the Specific Operational Plan (POE) Housing, a specific device to combat robberies in homes. According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, robberies in homes continue to be the main concern in the Girona Police Region.
Recent arrests in the Baix Empordà
In early 2026, the Mossos d"Esquadra arrested three individuals linked to several violent assaults in the Baix Empordà. The police report indicates that the group took more than 46,000 euros in jewelry and money in at least five robberies, with 13,200 euros in cash and jewelry valued at up to 33,000 euros.
The first assault attributed to this group took place on December 30 in Palafrugell and the last on Monday night prior to the arrest, in Mont-ras. The events remain under judicial investigation.
