Girona is positioned as the second province in Catalonia with the most people receiving the Guaranteed Citizenship Income, according to the latest official data provided by the Government. At the end of last year, 3,870 people in Girona were receiving this benefit, only behind Barcelona, which has 28,875 beneficiaries. Tarragona has 3,817 and Lleida has 2,387 recipients.
Provincial distribution and key figures
In the region of Catalonia, 40,196 people were registered as beneficiaries of the RGC at the close of the last fiscal year. The annual amount allocated to this social aid reached almost 30 million euros. The average duration of the benefit stands at 5.4 years, a figure that reflects the stability in access to this resource.35% of recipients have minors in their care, which shows the impact of the RGC on families with children. During 2023, 2,314 people stopped receiving the benefit after joining the labor market. In 2024, the figure rises to 2,953 and as of October 1, 2025, 1,747 more people have stopped receiving it for the same reason
Profile of beneficiaries and evolution of applications
Women represent the majority of beneficiaries, especially in the age range between 23 and 54 years. In the 23 to 34 year age group, the number of women beneficiaries triples that of men. The main group of recipients is between 35 and 64 years old. From 65 years onwards, the total number of beneficiaries decreases, although women remain the majority.

Concentration of beneficiaries in Girona and municipalities
Within the province of Girona, la Selva and el Gironès concentrate the largest number of beneficiaries, with 1,080 and 1,050 people respectively. They are followed by el Alt Empordà, with 715, and el Baix Empordà, with 616 recipients.
