The City Council of Girona has paid tribute this Tuesday to the writer, journalist and literary critic Miquel Pairolí in the park that bears his name, located behind the Parc de Recerca i Innovació de la Universitat de Girona.

The event has served to give public visibility to a space whose name was approved in 2012, although until now no institutional recognition had been held on site. The call has gathered representatives from the cultural, journalistic, and editorial fields linked to the author's career.

A recognition pending since 2012

In the meeting have participated the mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas, the president of the College of Journalists of Girona, Jordi Grau, the writer Antoni Puigvert, the deputy director of El Punt Avui, Xevi Sala, the president of the Miquel Pairolí Foundation, Fina Pairolí, and the director of Editorial Gavarres, Àngel Madrià.

"Miquel is an author in capital letters, who made first-rate Catalan literature" - Lluc Salellas, mayor of Girona

The park officially received the name of Miquel Pairolí in 2012, but had not hosted until this Tuesday any public act of homage. The ceremony has wanted to settle that absence in a space that permanently remembers the figure of the author.

Literary and journalistic trajectory

Miquel Pairolí was born in Quart in 1955 and died in the same municipality in 2011. Throughout his career, he developed a recognized body of work in both the literary and journalistic fields, with titles such as Octubre, Paisatge amb flames, L"enigma, El manuscrit de Virgili and Cera.

The tribute held in Girona has brought together voices close to his legacy to reclaim the dimension of an author who left a prominent mark in contemporary Catalan literature and in the country's cultural journalism.
