The company committee of Girona+Neta has announced a strike starting May 4 due to the blocking of the negotiation of the new collective agreement, which has been ongoing for a year and a half. The strike also comes at a particularly sensitive time for the city, as it will coincide with the celebration of Temps de Flors between May 9 and 17.

They demand to unblock the agreement

The representation of the workers maintains that the negotiation remains stalled and keeps among its main demands salary improvements linked to the CPI, a real conciliation, more staff, adapted vehicles, more cleaning routes and the incorporation of the figure of the neighborhood rubble collector. It also asks that the use of the card be voluntary and subsidized.

The works council also demands the presence of the Councillor for Climate Action, Sergi Cot, in the negotiations. The workers consider that the mediation should fall to municipal technicians in order to address the modifications of the contract.

The City Council reminds that the company is private

The deputy mayor and councilor for Resource Management and Citizen Services, Sílvia Aliu, has remarked that Girona+Neta is a private company. Despite this, she has urged both the company and the staff to work to guarantee the provision of the service.

Aliu has recalled that a year ago the City Council already offered the mediation of the Col·legi d'Advocats to try to bring positions closer. However, he has regretted that no response has been received or that it has been negative.

Coincidence with other strikes in the city

The call in Girona+Neta adds to another open labor conflict in the municipal sphere. The municipal brigades have announced a strike for this Thursday, meaning that the city faces several labor fronts on dates of great activity and influx of visitors.

The coincidence of the strike with Temps de Flors places the focus on a basic service in one of the periods with most public exposure for Girona. Awaiting new contacts, the conflict remains open and without an agreement that allows calling off the strike.
