The regions of Girona have registered a decrease of 126 unemployed people during the month of February, positioning itself as the only demarcation in Catalonia where the number of unemployed has fallen this month. The decrease represents 0.44% less compared to January and contrasts with the evolution of the rest of the Catalan territory.

Girona leads the reduction of unemployment in Catalonia

In Girona there are currently 28,724 people unemployed. Most of the people who have found work have done so in the services sector, which encompasses activities such as hospitality and commerce. This sector has reduced 124 unemployed people, while industry has lowered 24, construction 37, and agriculture 18.

The decrease in unemployment in Girona occurs after an increase of 1.14% in January. In parallel, 77 people without previous work experience have registered as job seekers during February.

Comparison with the rest of Catalonia

While Girona has reduced unemployment, unemployment has increased in Barcelona with 2,018 more people, in Lleida with 130 and in Tarragona with 17. In Catalonia as a whole, unemployment has risen for the third consecutive month with 2,039 more unemployed people in February, which represents an increase of 0.63% and places the total number of unemployed people at 327,253. However, this figure is the lowest recorded in a month of February since 2008.

In comparison with last year, Girona has 1,500 fewer unemployed people, which represents a decrease of 4.96%. In Catalonia as a whole, the lists of employment services have decreased by 7,068 people compared to the same month of 2025, 2.11% less.
