Girona closed 2025 with the creation of 2,099 new companies, an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous year and the highest figure since 2007. The average capital of these companies reached 64,494 euros, which represents an increase of 29% compared to 2024 and one of the highest values recorded since 2008.
Record of new companies and decrease in closures in Girona
Business dynamism in the province was also reflected in the decrease in closures. In 2025, 603 companies were dissolved in Girona, the lowest figure in the last four years. This figure contrasts with the national trend, where the closure of commercial companies increased for the third consecutive year.
Catalonia and Spain maintain the upward trend
In Spain as a whole, 127,533 new companies were incorporated during 2025, 7.9% more than in 2024 and the second highest volume since 2007. The national record still corresponds to 2006, when 149,471 companies were created. 2025 was the third consecutive year of growth in company creation both in Girona and in the State as a whole.
By autonomous communities, the Community of Madrid led the creation of companies with 28,348, followed by Catalonia with 24,907 and Andalusia with 21,503. At the opposite end were La Rioja (481), Cantabria (970), and the Chartered Community of Navarre (1,033).
Capital and most active sectors
The subscribed capital for the incorporation of companies in Spain grew by 1.4% in 2025, although the average capital decreased by 6.0%. The real estate, financial, and insurance sectors represented 19% of new companies, while trade accounted for 16.2%.
Increase in closures in the entire state
Nationally, 26,073 company closures were recorded in 2025, 3.7% more than the previous year and the second highest figure in the historical series, only surpassed by the 26,584 dissolutions in 2022. 19.6% of the closures corresponded to the commerce sector and 15.9% to construction.
The Community of Madrid (7,964), Andalusia (4,540) and the Valencian Community (1,900) led business closures. Navarra (93), La Rioja (162) and Cantabria (309) registered the lowest dissolution figures.
Voluntary and Merger Dissolutions
Of the companies closed in 2025 in Spain, 21,767 were voluntary dissolutions, 4.3% more than the previous year, and 2,266 occurred due to mergers, with an increase of 8.5%.
The 2025 balance confirms the consolidation of the recovery of the business fabric in Girona, while at the state level the trend of growth in the creation of companies persists, accompanied by a sustained increase in closures.
