El Sistema d"Emergències Mèdiques has launched this Wednesday new ambulances in the regions of Girona within the deployment of the new fleet model in Catalonia. In the demarcation, 224 new ambulances are already operating, a figure that represents 81 more units than in the previous tender.

Six new units of the typologies incorporated in Girona

Among the novelties is the creation of three types of vehicles. These are sanitary logistics support units, multipurpose ambulances, and launcher units. In total, 73 units of these new types have been created across the territory, of which 6 are in Girona.

The new deployment also incorporates a visible update in the exterior image of the vehicles. The ambulances debut the Battenberg pattern, with rectangular blocks of green color and reflective materials, in addition to a reflective inverted V on the rear part and a luminescent perimeter profile by day and reflective by night.

More visibility and new technical equipment

The equipment of the new units includes animal deterrents, perimeter, front, side and rear lights, as well as red lights inside the doors and white lights in the assistance cabin. The objective is to improve operational visibility and working conditions during interventions.

In the assistance section, the new vehicles allow to perform ultrasounds and blood tests with immediate results at the same place of the emergency. They also incorporate gas analyzers, videolaryngoscopes, vibrating membrane nebulizers, caterpillar chairs, stretchers for overweight patients, child restraint systems and backpacks prepared for incidents with multiple affected.

The Basic Life Support units also have AED monitors, pelvic belts, and tourniquets. Added to this are new onboard computers, more radio channels, and portable transmitters designed to reinforce the connectivity and cybersecurity of the service.

A deployment with a five-year investment

The planned investment for this deployment exceeds 278 million euros in five years. With this renovation, the SEM expands resources in the comarcas of Girona and updates both the care capacity and the technical endowment of a fleet called to intervene in daily care and in emergencies of greater complexity.
