The energy group Estabanell has initiated the procedures to develop new small-scale wind generation facilities in the demarcations of Girona and Tarragona. The company proposes small-scale projects, with between one and three wind turbines per site.
Projects in Girona and Tarragona in initial phase
For the moment, the company has not specified the municipalities involved, the planned capacities, nor the execution schedule for the initiatives in Girona. Estabanell emphasizes that its presence in the Girona regions dates back decades, with six small hydroelectric plants in Osona and Ripollès, next to the Ter river.
Distributed model and complementarity with photovoltaics
"Wind generation can also be distributed, provided, and integrated into the territory. Furthermore, it is the perfect complement for photovoltaic energy, as they generate at different times of the day" - Pere Borràs, director of Estabanell's generation subsidiary
The company is committed to a distributed generation model, with low-impact installations and adapted to the local environment. The strategy seeks to strengthen the energy mix by adding wind to photovoltaic, in which Estabanell already has previous experience in distributed projects.
Participation in a wind farm in Aragón
In addition to the plans in Catalonia, Estabanell has entered into the shareholding of a wind project in Fabara, in the province of Zaragoza. This installation will have two wind turbines and a total power of 6.6 MW. The forecast is that the park will become operational during the second half of 2027.
"With the experience acquired promoting distributed photovoltaic projects, we take another step to offer a more robust energy mix by adding wind energy" - Pere Borràs, director of Estabanell's generation subsidiary
The company maintains its commitment to renewable energies in the Catalan territory, although the details about the new wind facilities in Girona and Tarragona are still pending concretization.
