The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested five men between 28 and 52 years old in Riudellots de la Selva for their alleged relation with the theft of electronic material in a truck parking lot located on the shoulder of the A2 highway. The action occurred on Wednesday around 12:30 p.m.
In a first intervention, the agents arrested three men aged 28, 31 and 32 as alleged perpetrators of a crime of robbery with force. They located them with boxes of electronic material and with several objects that, allegedly, would have been used to access the cargo.
Among the material seized from these first three detainees there was a mace, an iron bar and two cut cargo seals. One of the arrested was also the driver of the truck whose trailer lock had been burst open.
A driver among the first arrested
The investigation indicates that the stolen merchandise came from a truck whose box could not be opened in an ordinary way by the driver. The company Amazon, owner of the cargo, confirmed that drivers do not have access to the merchandise and that the trailer can only be opened by means of a code provided to the destination company.
During the operation, the Mossos also located in the area a high-end car owned by one of the truckers, an element that was incorporated into the proceedings opened by the Catalan police.
Two more arrests hours later
Three hours after the first arrests, the officers carried out two more arrests. In this case, it concerns two men aged 38 and 52, investigated for an alleged crime of receiving stolen goods.
The Mossos surprised them while they were trying to hitch a semi-trailer loaded with the stolen material. That second action allowed to expand the police intervention in the same environment of the truck parking lot of Riudellots de la Selva.
The final balance of the operation includes the seizure of 6,810 euros in cash and five mobile phones, in addition to the electronic material recovered. The investigation remains open to clarify the degree of participation of each of the detainees.
