A fire in a tanker truck has forced the closure of the C-66 road at Beuda, in the Garrotxa region. Traffic remains interrupted on the stretch between Besalú and Sant Ferriol, towards Girona.
Intervention of Firefighters and initial actions
The alert to the Firefighters occurred when there were 5 minutes left until a quarter to nine. The rapid mobilization led to the activation of seven units, as initially there was suspicion that the truck might be transporting dangerous goods.
Finally, it has been confirmed that the vehicle was not carrying this type of cargo. Several crews have returned to the station after the chemical risk was ruled out, although four Firefighter teams continue to work in the area to extinguish the fire and secure the perimeter.
Origin of the fire and traffic regulation
According to initial reports, the fire would have started in one of the tanker truck's wheels. The incident has generated traffic jams and has forced the diversion of traffic on this section of the C-66.
At the location, there are also officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra de Trànsit, in charge of regulating traffic and ensuring the safety of drivers.
The closure affects a main communication route between Besalú and Sant Ferriol, which complicates travel in the direction of Girona during the intervention of emergency services.
