Adif has awarded the drafting of the projects for the Figueres railway bypass and the new Figueres-Vilafant intermodal station for an amount of 3.7 million euros. The action directly affects the mobility and urban environment of Figueres and Vilafant, municipalities of Alt Empordà, where a relevant transformation is foreseen in the railway layout and in the station's infrastructure.
Institutional agreement and scope of the investment
The protocol that gives coverage to this project was signed last July between the Ministry of Transport, the Generalitat, Adif, Adif Alta Velocidad and the city councils of Figueres and Vilafant. The planned investment for all the actions is around 150 million euros, according to official data.
The remodeling contemplates the integration of the current Figueres-Vilafant station, which will host both high-speed services and Rodalies services. The construction of new accesses and platforms is foreseen, with the objective of improving connectivity and the traveler experience.
Urban transformation and elimination of level crossings
One of the highlights of the project is the elimination of two level crossings located in the center of Figueres, specifically on Vilallonga avenue and Vilatenim promenade. This measure seeks to improve safety and traffic flow in these areas, traditionally affected by the presence of railway infrastructure.
