A new racial controversy has broken out in Figueres after the dissemination of a video on Instagram where the non-attached councilwoman Àngela Domènech makes statements against two individuals of Moroccan origin. The publication, recorded this Monday, places the incident on the ascent to the Castle and has generated an immediate reaction due to the tone used.

In the images, the councilwoman assures that two people spat on her feet while she was walking on the public road. Her initial description identifies the alleged aggressors with derogatory terminology that has focused public debate from the very beginning.

"Two beasts from Morocco, just two minutes ago, here on the ascent to the Castle, behind me, spat on my feet" - Àngela Domènech, non-attached councilor

The text accompanying the video elevates the seriousness of the complaint by linking this fact to a supposed escalation of violence in the city. Domènech warns that social degradation is total and that insults have led to direct physical assaults.

Calls for the expulsion of groups

The municipal representative's stance is not limited to narrating the incident, but rather proposes a drastic solution for those she considers do not integrate. Her words point directly to the forced exclusion of certain groups from neighborhood coexistence.

Domènech maintains that it is not enough to wait for these people to adapt, but that it is necessary to fight to throw them out. This statement closes his message with a clear intention of political and social confrontation.

"We have gone from insult to aggression in the blink of an eye; today, a spit is just the prelude to a stab. The degradation is total" - Àngela Domènech, councilor without portfolio

Faced with the criticism received, the councilwoman has flatly denied any racist motivation in her comments. She expresses her weariness with the repeated accusations and justifies her anger by the situation she observes daily in the streets of Figueres.

This is not the first time Domènech has generated institutional tension. Until a few months ago, he held the representation of the Popular Party in the consistory, but his recent trajectory is marked by the break with his former party.

Break with the Popular Party

His move to the group of non-attached members was formalized in the summer of 2025. This change came as a consequence of an internal sanction that removed him from membership for five and a half years.

The conflict with the Gerona leadership of the PP originated in the accusations of lack of transparency in the accounts that Domènech herself made against her former colleagues. The suspension of her membership closed that chapter and placed her in her current independent position.

The current controversy adds a new layer of complexity to his political profile. The statements about the need to expel certain groups reignite the debate about the limits of public discourse in local government.
