The Instagram profile 'Figueres Oscura' reappeared on Monday, May 4th at 12 noon after a digital silence of almost two years. The account returned to activity eleven days after the court admitted the complaint of the mayor Jordi Masquef.
The extortion paralyzed the account
The reactivation coincides with the judicial progress on the alleged crimes of blackmail and extortion. The City Council brought the case before the Prosecutor's Office on September 5, 2024. requests for money were dismissed by the council.
The councilor detailed that the responsible party was demanding 20,000 euros to stop disseminating videos of incidents in the capital of Alt Empordà. Masquef described the situation as especially serious and assured that his government does not accept blackmail.
"It is intolerable to play with harming the city's image to pressure the City Council for money" - Jordi Masquef, mayor of Figueres
The complaint was filed on the same day that the profile managers called a demonstration in front of the town hall. The rally demanded more public security but was called off when the extortion attempt became public.
Provocative content after the return
The first sign of life was a story with the message "Good afternoon". Subsequently, two posts were published on the wall. One of them was deleted shortly after due to its explicit content.
The withdrawn publication showed a man sleeping on the public street with his genitals exposed. It also included scatological images under the text "Things from Figueres" and an ironic invitation to visit the city.
The other publication remains visible and shows two men descending a facade with a suitcase. The caption says "I love Figueres. For more express moves, call me!" and the description signs off as "Ahmed Removals speaking".
"if anyone else has also suffered any behavior like the one I report in this statement, let them report the facts to the police" - Jordi Masquef, mayor of Figueres
The account accumulated 29,500 followers before its initial deactivation on September 6, 2024. During its inactivity, continuist profiles such as 'Patrulla Figueres' emerged without achieving similar impact.
The return of the original account reopens the tension between freedom of expression and legal limits. The judicial investigation now determines if the new publications maintain the criminal line denounced by the mayor.
