The Parliament of Catalonia has approved a motion for a resolution, promoted by Esquerra Republicana, to demand the construction of the new Castellum school in Sant Julià de Ramis. The initiative, defended by the Girona deputy Jordi Viñas, urges the Government to prioritize this facility and to guarantee its budgetary allocation to unblock a project that has been pending for years.

The resolution also calls for setting a concrete execution calendar to set a date for the start of works that remain stalled despite the project being considered a priority from a technical point of view. Until now, progress had been held back by a lack of budget and temporal commitment.

Budget and Schedule Claim

During the parliamentary debate, Viñas warned of the situation in which the educational center continues to operate. The Castellum school continues in prefabricated modules and some of them are more than 20 years old, facilities that do not meet current educational needs nor offer adequate conditions for students and teachers.

"We cannot continue normalizing children studying in barracks in precarious conditions while the project is ready to start" - Jordi Viñas, ERC deputy

The deputy demanded a definitive step from the Catalan Executive to leave this provisionality behind.

The City Council recalls that it already ceded the land

The approval has been received with satisfaction in Sant Julià de Ramis and Medinyà. The mayor, Marc Sayols, has defined it as very good news for the municipality and for the families who have been waiting for a school in good condition for years.

The council emphasizes that it has already taken the steps that corresponded to it to facilitate the execution of the project. In January 2025, it transferred the land to the Generalitat and has allocated 285,000 euros to the necessary urban development.

"The City Council has done the work and has made all resources available. Now it is the turn of the Government to comply and set a date for the start of the works" - Marc Sayols, mayor of Sant Julià de Ramis and Medinyà

A project pending for years

Political pressure now focuses on the resolution approved in the Catalan chamber having practical translation. The Castellum school continues in a chronic provisional situation, with aged prefabricated modules far from the standards required by current educational activity, while the municipality waits for the technical priority of the project to finally turn into concrete works and deadlines.
