A fire declared in an apartment in Puigcerdà has caused the complete evacuation of a residential block and has left three people injured by smoke inhalation during Thursday morning.
Emergency deployment in the center of Puigcerdà
The fire started in a building with a ground floor plus three stories. The Firefighters deployed five units to the property and three more in the area shortly after 07:15. The intervention required the evacuation of all residents, while one person had to remain confined inside their home due to the presence of smoke and difficulties in leaving.
Evacuation and medical attention to those affected
The Medical Emergency System (SEM) has mobilized two ambulances to transfer three injured people to the Hospital de la Cerdanya. All of them have been affected by smoke inhalation during the incident. The rest of the residents have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and have not required medical attention.
Police intervention and control of the situation
The Local Police of Puigcerdà and the Mossos d'Esquadra have participated in the operation, collaborating in the evacuation and the control of the security perimeter. The rapid action of the emergency services has made it possible to avoid greater damage in the affected block.
