A fire declared on Sunday night affected an occupied building located on Rentadors street in Palamós. The fire spread rapidly and forced the intervention of eight units of the Bombers, along with personnel from the Local Police, Mossos d"Esquadra and the SEM.
Deployment of emergencies and situation on the ship
Upon the arrival of emergency services, the fire was already very developed in two rooms of the warehouse, which is a single story. The structure was totally affected by the flames. Inside, according to the Firefighters, there was at least one vehicle and various objects belonging to the occupants.
During the extinguishing tasks, the Firefighters rescued a turtle that was inside a fish tank. The fire was declared extinguished around 2130 hours.
Occupation and consequences after the fire
Sources familiar with the case point out that an illegal squatter permanently resides in the building, while others come occasionally. After the intervention, the occupants were able to access the interior accompanied by the Firefighters to retrieve some belongings that were not damaged.
Subsequently, the occupants were informed that they could not spend the night in the building due to the danger of collapse after the fire. The first hypotheses about the origin of the fire point to a stove, although the facts continue under police investigation.
The action of the emergency services prevented personal injuries and allowed the rescue of the pet, while the investigation remains open to clarify the exact causes of the incident.
