A man of about 75 years old has died this Thursday at dusk in the middle of Santa Eugènia street in Girona, just in front of the Estació Jove and at the end of the parc Central, while he was driving by car towards the hospital.
The driver stops due to respiratory difficulties
The victim was driving with his wife when he decided to stop the vehicle upon noticing that he had difficulty breathing. According to what this newspaper has been able to learn, the man had been feeling unwell for several days and was heading to the health center for that reason.
The incident has taken place after eight in the evening, in the section of Santa Eugènia that crosses with the Mestre Francesc Civil lanes and Joan Brossa square, a very busy area and close to a bus stop.
Intervention of passers-by and emergency services
Two people who were nearby helped the man get out of the car and alerted the emergency services. Several ambulances from the Sistema d"Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), agents of the Mossos d"Esquadra and the Policía Municipal de Girona quickly arrived at the scene.
The health teams have tried to revive the man without success. The death has occurred on the public road, a few meters from the Estació Jove.
Police deployment and environmental protection
To preserve the space, the area has been delimited with police tape and several cloths have been placed around the point where the body remained, awaiting the arrival of the judicial entourage in charge of certifying the death.
The case has remained under police investigation, although the first information points to a possible heart attack as the cause of death.
