A 46-year-old motorcyclist was injured on Thursday morning after crashing into the shop window of a motorcycle store located at number 151 on carrer Barcelona in Girona. The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m., as she was traveling towards the city center.
The driver tried to get onto the sidewalk to park, but lost control during the maneuver and accelerated instead of braking. The motorcycle knocked over two protective bollards before crashing into the establishment's glass, which fell on her.
The parking maneuver ended with two bollards knocked over
Three units of the Girona Municipal Police, as well as personnel from the SEM and the Bombers de la Generalitat, were dispatched to the scene. The municipal officers drew up the report and attributed the origin of the accident to a problematic parking maneuver.
The woman suffered an ankle sprain and the SEM transferred her to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona. The crash also caused material damage to the shop window and to five motorcycles that were on display outside the store.
The shop window was still covered with wood a day after the crash
The accident occurred on a very busy stretch of carrer Barcelona, one of the main access roads to the center of Girona. The impact affected both the sidewalk protection elements and the commercial facade of the establishment.
The following day, Friday, workers had already replaced the bollards that the motorcycle knocked over during the crash. The broken shop window glass, however, remained covered with wood pending replacement.
The damage affected five motorcycles displayed outside the business, in addition to the shop window of the premises on carrer Barcelona.
