The Local Police of Castell Platja d"Aro has arrested two men allegedly linked to an itinerant group specialized in thefts in commercial establishments. Both arrests occurred after a supermarket in the municipality alerted on April 11 about the presence of a man who would have tried to commit a robbery.
The investigation places the two detainees in a group from the metropolitan area of Barcelona, made up of middle-aged men with a multi-offender profile and dedicated, allegedly, to acting in businesses in different parts of the territory. The arrested individuals would be related to the theft of 900 euros in an establishment in Castell Platja d"Aro last February.
A frustrated attempt in a supermarket reactivated the investigation
The alert from a supermarket in the area allowed a Local Police patrol to be mobilized, which went out in search of the suspect after his escape. The officers managed to locate him and identify him as a member of the group that was already under investigation for previous events in the municipality.
Shortly after, plainclothes officers located a second man on the terrace of a premises. The investigators identify him as the alleged leader and most active member of the group. The two were arrested.
They acted as a group and with a distribution of functions
The method attributed to this network was clear and coordinated. Three people entered the establishment and divided the roles. One made a purchase or simulated payment, another entertained the cashier, and the third took advantage of the maneuver to steal the cash from the cash register.
For their movements, the suspects used rental cars, a formula that allowed them to move quickly through different municipalities and hinder police surveillance.
Pending court orders
The two detainees had accumulated pending judicial orders, among them the one linked to the events that occurred in February in Castell Platja d"Aro, when 900 euros disappeared from a business. The police action has allowed two of the alleged members of this group to be placed at the disposal of the court while the investigation remains open regarding their possible relation with other thefts.
