The Palamós City Council has closed access to motorized vehicles on the road to Cala Estreta within the Castell-Cap Roig Natural Interest Area starting at midnight on May 1st. The measure will remain in effect without interruption until the end of summer while the risk of forest fires persists. The route crosses the central core of the natural reserve, and its restriction aims to conserve the ecological values of the environment, regulate public use, and give absolute priority to travel on foot and by bicycle. This decision also follows public safety criteria and facilitates the immediate action of emergency services in the event of any fire or dangerous situation.
Restrictions and intermunicipal coordination
The regulation prohibits the circulation of any motorized vehicle, unless the driver resides or owns a property in the affected sector. The local governments of Mont-ras and Palafrugell will coordinate their actions with the Palamós council and the Generalitat to monitor the entry points to the protected territory. Pedestrian routes, both along the coastal path and traditional trails, will remain open as usual throughout the summer period.
New calendar at Pineda d'en Gori-S'Alguer
In parallel, a continuous motorized closure will be activated in the Pineda d"en Gori-S"Alguer area starting June 15. The date coincides with the moment of maximum tourist pressure on this coastal stretch. The authorities will apply the same access and pedestrian priority restrictions established in the Castell-Cap Roig area.
Parking Management and Control Systems
This Friday, the paid parking service in the Castell sector comes into effect. The charge will operate from Monday to Sunday until the end of the season, although it exempts from payment vehicle owners who pay circulation tax in Palamós. The facility has a modular structure capable of providing up to 600 spaces depending on seasonal demand. A luminous panel located next to the roundabout on the C31 road will inform in real time of the available occupancy level.
The municipal regulations expressly prohibit overnight stays for vans and motorhomes, as well as free camping in the vicinity. Another parking strip located at the end of the access road to the beach, with capacity for 50 vehicles, is reserved exclusively for people with accredited reduced mobility and for the rescue and cleaning services of the coast. As a complementary measure, the town hall will install a photographic license plate control system designed to penalize those who exceed the authorized limits and attempt to access the interior of the natural space. The initiative reinforces administrative surveillance and aims to deter the illegal entry of automobiles through the internal tracks.
