The Blanes City Council has warned this Wednesday of several fraudulent calls in which a person poses as a municipal official to demand the payment of alleged pending taxes from residents and business owners in the municipality.
The notice reached the town hall after several businesses and individuals explained that they had received calls in which the caller claimed to be acting on behalf of the Blanes City Council. During the conversation, the perpetrator demanded an alleged municipal debt and offered the possibility of processing the payment immediately via Bizum or by providing a bank account number.

Given this situation, the City Council issued an alert through social media, the municipal website, and various information channels to make it clear that these calls have no relation with the council. The objective is to prevent new residents from falling for the deception.

The municipal message insists that no payment be made if a call of this nature is received. The recommendation is to cut the communication and not provide bank details nor accept any immediate payment method.
Police tracking
The facts have already been brought to the attention of the Local Police of Blanes and the Mossos d'Esquadra, who will follow up on the case. For now, the council keeps the preventive warning activated to try to stop new scam attempts.
The City Council also asks that any person who has been a victim of this fraud report it immediately to the Local Police or the Mossos d'Esquadra, in order to facilitate the investigation and detect if there are more affected in Blanes.
