The Hospital of Blanes has performed its first minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries, a step that expands the ophthalmological care of the center and strengthens specialized assistance in the Selva marítima and Alt Maresme.
The first two interventions were carried out during the month of March. The technique used incorporates the iStent inject W implant, a device designed to improve the drainage of aqueous humor and reduce intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma.
Interventions alongside cataract surgery
This procedure is performed simultaneously with cataract surgery, which allows addressing both pathologies in a single intervention. With this incorporation, the hospital adds a new service in the area of Ophthalmology within its usual care activity.
The implementation of this technique avoids the referral of patients to reference hospitals, a change that brings treatment closer to the users' immediate environment and speeds up their care.
Follow-up by the same medical team
The same team that performs the intervention is also responsible for the subsequent follow-up in consultation, so that the care process remains centralized in Blanes Hospital itself.
The expansion of services occurs just one month after another milestone at the center, which in February carried out its first retina operation. Both additions are part of the development of the service portfolio of the Corporació de Salut del Maresme i la Selva.
