A 26-year-old man has been arrested this Sunday in the Santa Eugènia neighborhood of Girona after assaulting a homeless person on the Olot promenade, near Bastiments street. The victim remains stable within the severity at Josep Trueta hospital, according to medical sources.
Arrest after attempted escape and assault on the Mossos
The incident occurred around eight in the morning. The arrested man, after the assault, tried to flee the scene. The Mossos d"Esquadra managed to intercept him in the vicinity. During the arrest, the man assaulted the officers in an attempt to escape, according to police sources.
The detainee will appear tomorrow before the duty court of Girona for an alleged crime of attempted homicide and another of assault on agents of authority.
Institutional reaction and attention to victims
The mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas, has shown his consternation for the aggression suffered by the homeless person. In a post on the social network X, Salellas has stressed that "no violence has a place" in the city.
