Maçanet de la Selva celebrates this weekend, on May 2 and 3, the 34th edition of the Fira de Pagès, an event that once again places farmers and the dignification of an essential trade for the territory at its center. During two days, the municipality becomes a great showcase of the rural world with informative activities, family proposals, and exhibitions linked to field work.
A fair focused on the farmer's trade
The programming revolves around the active participation of the farmers, who will once again have a leading role with an exhibition of agricultural machinery and with the traditional tractor parade. This tractor march reaches its 27th edition and the forecast is to gather around a hundred vehicles, one of the most recognizable images of the fair.
This year's edition also incorporates an exhibition proposal on agricultural work and local horticultural heritage. The exhibition stems from the winning work of the Maçanet Historical Research Grant, prepared by the biologist Carles Burguera.
Horticultural heritage and varieties of the municipality
The exhibition will allow visitors to learn about the horticultural varieties typical of Maçanet de la Selva and get closer to the complete process of planting, growth, and obtaining the fruit. Among the featured species are the fesol de l"ull ros and the fig, two examples of the local agricultural heritage that the fair wants to highlight.
The objective of this proposal is to strengthen the connection between agricultural activity and the history of the municipality, with an informative look at the landscape, the crops and the knowledge transmitted from generation to generation.
Craftsmanship, traditional trades and family activities
The Fira de Pagès will also reserve space for craftsmanship and for demonstrations of traditional trades. Among them will be present the clog maker and the basket weaver, within an offer designed to show techniques and works linked to the rural environment.
In parallel, the program will include activities for family audiences. Children will be able to enjoy the wooden Ferris wheel and a participatory workshop has also been planned to learn how to milk a cow, one of the interactive proposals of this edition.
Can Sagrera and an open workshop next to the church square
Can Sagrera will once again be another of the outstanding visiting points, with the collection of tools and peasant trades. Added to this is a novelty in this year's route, as the artisan Nahuel Forchini will open the doors of his workshop, located near the church square.
In this space, it will show the technique of wood carving and will also offer the possibility of participating in the activity. The complete program of the 34 Fira de Pagès can be consulted through the channels enabled by the organization, in an edition that once again turns Maçanet de la Selva into a meeting point with the rural world.
