An 80-year-old man died this Wednesday in Fornells de la Selva after falling while doing repair work on the roof of his house. The accident occurred around 16:15 hours in a dwelling located next to the N II.
To the scene, officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques, and the Bombers were dispatched, who mobilized two units. When emergency services arrived, the fall had already had fatal consequences and paramedics could do nothing to save his life.
Fall from about seven meters
The Firefighters indicated that the man was working on the roof with a boom crane. During the intervention, the victim fell from about seven meters high after the vehicle's basket broke with which he was performing the tasks.
After the fall, the firefighters secured and removed the jib crane to a safe area to avoid new risks in the vicinity of the dwelling.
Police investigation and family support
The Mossos d'Esquadra consider the case a domestic accident. Following the events, the SEM also activated the psychological support unit to attend to the deceased's family members.
The incident forced the deployment of several emergency services at this point in Fornells de la Selva, next to the N II, on an afternoon marked by an operation focused on assistance, the safety of the area, and attention to the victim's family.
