The Aliança Catalana party has begun to reveal its strategy for the 2027 municipal elections after consolidating its institutional presence with two seats in Parliament. The party seeks to expand its influence beyond its traditional bases in Girona and Lleida, where it achieved regional representation in the 2024 elections.
Barcelona remains without a confirmed candidate
Sílvia Orriols, leader of the movement born in Ripoll in 2020, had initially announced that she would reveal the candidate for mayor of Barcelona on Saint George's Day. The symbolic date of April 23rd passed without the announcement planned by the national leadership being made effective.
The publicist Lluís Carrasco rejected leading the list in the Catalan capital, as confirmed later by Orriols herself. Carrasco is publicly known for his authorship of the canvas shown by Joan Laporta in front of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
This dismissal forces the party leadership to rethink its roadmap for the Catalan capital, while maintaining the expectation of presenting a competitive candidacy in the immediate future.
Proper names for six municipalities
Despite the vacancy in Barcelona, the party made public on April 23 the identity of its mayoral candidates in six strategic towns. None of these municipalities correspond to provincial capitals, although they do represent relevant strongholds on the territorial political map.
"We already have candidates for the rest of the provincial capitals" - Sílvia Orriols, leader of Aliança Catalana
Èric Esteban, a 34-year-old telecommunications engineer and professor, will head the list in Amposta. This technician was a Junts councilor in the town and his official presentation took place on March 19 in the Parliament.
Judit Vinyes will assume the candidacy in Berga after the integration of Berga Grup Independent into the structure of Aliança Catalana. The designation of this geologist and business executive caused significant internal tensions in the local section.
More than half of the members of the Berguedà group threatened to leave the party in protest against the new political direction imposed by the national leadership.
Technical and political profiles on the list
Jonathan Cortijo, a 44-year-old lawyer and regional president in Baix Camp, will be the lead candidate in Reus. His career includes legal advice to those prosecuted for the October 1st referendum through the Abogados del 1-O platform.
Arnau Liesa, a 30-year-old History student, will run for mayor of Figueres. In Tàrrega, the candidate will be Viqui Novell, current president of the Urgell regional council and a healthcare professional with three decades of experience.
Olga Pagès will lead the project in Banyoles. This health expert, with more than twenty years of experience, also presides over the training in the region of Pla de l'Estany.
Marina Quintana will be the candidate in Roda de Ter. The teacher and psychopedagogue holds the regional presidency in Osona and accessed the council in May 2025 after replacing the sole councilor from her previous independent candidacy.
Eduard Rel closes the payroll of mayoral candidates presented to date in Tortosa. This graduate in Social Education and former local deputy first secretary of the PSC already appeared as number three for Aliança Catalana in Tarragona during the last regional elections.
It is taken for granted that Sílvia Orriols will repeat as the head of the list in Ripoll, the party's foundational municipality. The formation thus maintains its hard core in the Girona regions while trying to penetrate other areas of Catalan territory.
The absence of a name for Barcelona contrasts with the speed shown in closing the lists in medium-sized cities. This duality reflects the party's difficulty in projecting leadership in large urban areas compared to its consolidation in specific local environments.
