The Local Police of Palafrugell arrested a man on Wednesday, approximately 25 years old, after accusing him of spitting on a ten-month-old baby on a pedestrian street in the old town. The events occurred around a quarter past twelve in the afternoon when the child's mother was walking through the town center with the little one in her stroller. The alleged perpetrator approached the group while making gestures towards the infant before spitting at the minor and fleeing the scene.
The mother detected the individual's erratic behavior and suspected he was under the influence of alcohol. She tried to change direction to avoid the encounter, but the man insisted on pursuing her until he committed the violent act against the baby of just a few months. After witnessing the events, the mother filed an immediate report that triggered a police search in the streets of Palafrugell.
Extensive criminal record and judicial release
Local Police agents identified the suspect shortly after the events. Investigations reveal that it is a young man with an extensive criminal record registered by different security forces. The detainee has up to 42 records previously between the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Local Police. His record accumulates antecedents for the following criminal offenses
- Threats
- Sexual assaults
- Robbery with force
- Theft
- Attacks against law enforcement officers
After giving a statement before the court, the Court of First Instance of La Bisbal d'Empordà ordered the release of the detainee.
