The Girona City Council has launched an intelligent control and payment system to regulate access to MercaGirona and reinforce security in this municipal facility. The action includes external control with barriers, cameras, and a payment station, in addition to an independent internal system with electronic identification to limit entry to certain areas of the building.

The intervention combines access control and electric mobility in the same enclosure. Along with the new system, the council has installed two charging stations for electric scooters powered by photovoltaic panels, with capacity for eight vehicles each and free use for authorized users.

The new control integrates barriers, cameras, and payment into municipal systems

The external access to MercaGirona will now be managed with software connected to the municipal information, access management, and payment systems. The objective is to organize entry to the premises and add a layer of control over movements in a facility that the council considers strategic for Girona.

In addition, the City Council has implemented a separate circuit for the interior of the building. This system works with electronic identification and digital validation to regulate entry into certain areas.

Gemma Geis i Carreras, deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Promotion and Legal Services of the Girona City Council, framed the action within the modernization of the wholesale market.

"With these actions, we are taking a step forward to modernize MercaGirona and strengthen its competitiveness. These are initiatives that imply multiple benefits in terms of environmental sustainability, public health, local economy, and urban modernization. MercaGirona is a strategic facility for the city, and that is why it was important to incorporate improvements that allow us to gain efficiency, security, and quality of service" - Gemma Geis i Carreras, deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Promotion and Legal Services, Girona City Council

The two photovoltaic stations allow for free charging of 16 scooters

In addition to access control, MercaGirona now has two charging stations for electric scooters. Each has capacity for eight vehicles and operates with photovoltaic panels.

The recharge will be free for authorized users. The measure adds a service linked to electric mobility within the precinct and fits with other actions of energy efficiency and digitalization applied in Girona.

In economic terms, the integrated access control has cost 86,031 euros with VAT. To that figure, 39,990.50 euros with VAT for the two charging stations are added.

Both investments are part of the Menja't Girona project, financed by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds.
