The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested Jonathan Andic this Tuesday for homicide in the investigation into the death of his father, Isak Andic, which occurred on December 14, 2024, during a mountain excursion in Collbató, in Baix Llobregat. After the arrest, the officers took him to the Martorell police station to take his statement and then took him to the town's courts, where he is testifying before the judge investigating the case.
The arrest turns the case, which was opened due to a fall on a narrow path without a railing near the Salnitre caves, from a height of more than 100 meters, on its head, as it now focuses on the relationship between father and son and the contradictions detected by investigators in Jonathan Andic's two statements to the Mossos d'Esquadra.
The judge reactivated the case and ordered the analysis of Jonathan Andic's mobile phone
The judicial process remains under summary secrecy. Nevertheless, it has transpired that the judge reactivated the investigation last October and commissioned the Mossos d'Esquadra to analyze Jonathan Andic's mobile phone, including the recovery of deleted messages.
The status of Isak Andic's son as an investigated person is precisely due to the doubts that arose during those proceedings. Investigators place the poor relationship between the two and the alleged contradictions between the versions that Jonathan Andic offered in his police appearances among the elements under examination.
In one of those statements, Jonathan Andic maintained that his father fell during the route and that he quickly called emergency services. The investigation also takes into account that, before that call, he contacted his father's wife.
The excursion to Collbató sought to de-escalate a previous family conflict
The investigating court number five of Martorell is investigating whether the deterioration of the personal relationship between father and son may be relevant to the case. Judicial sources place this conflict in reasons unrelated to the company.
Witnesses from the family circle have offered different versions of the origin of these discrepancies. Estefanía Knuth, Isak Andic's wife, linked them to Mango's financial situation a decade ago, while other family members attribute them to more recent personal disagreements.
The outing to the mountain in Collbató itself aimed to smooth things over between the two. In that scenario, Isak Andic died after falling from more than 100 meters in a narrow passage area located near the Salnitre caves.
Jonathan Andic maintains a relevant weight in the company's shareholding structure. He is vice-chairman of the board of directors and owns approximately one-third of Mango, although he left daily management when he stepped down from the direction of the men's clothing unit.
After the opening of the will, Estefanía Knuth claimed a larger portion of the inheritance and reached an agreement with the children to receive approximately 25 million euros.
