Bàsquet Girona fell in Lugo against Breogán by 95 to 76 and suffered their fifth defeat in the last six ACB games. Moncho Fernández's team could not get closer to tenth place with only two games left to close the regular season.

The defeat also came in a game that could have brought the club closer to its best historical record in the competition. The fourteenth victory of the season would have been Bàsquet Girona's ceiling in the ACB, but the team was penalized by 20 turnovers and 8 of 34 in three-pointers.

The first quarter left Girona with nine points and seven turnovers

The start in Lugo marked the rest of the night. Bàsquet Girona closed the first quarter with only nine points, after scoring one three-pointer in eleven attempts and losing seven possessions.

Breogán took advantage of that scenario from the start and consolidated their lead before halftime. The Galician team went into the break with a 45 to 31 score after a 12-0 run in which Dibba, Aranitovic, and Alonso scored.

Moncho Fernández did not find offensive continuity in a game in which his team made circulation errors and had low outside shooting percentages. That combination left Girona always trailing at the Pazo dos Deportes in Lugo.

Breogán is two wins ahead with two games left

After the break, Breogán extended the difference to 19 points and left the duel almost resolved. Andric finished closing the game with a three-pointer that made it 90 to 69 before the final 95 to 76.

Even so, the Girona team retains the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to the 103 to 80 achieved in the first round at Fontajau. That margin could be valuable in case of a tie, although their classification has become notably complicated.

Now Breogán is two wins ahead of Bàsquet Girona with only two games left. To match the Galician rival in the fight for tenth place, the Catalan team needs to win their two games and for Breogán to also lose their remaining two.

The precedent at Fontajau resulted in a 103 to 80 victory for Bàsquet Girona, a 23-point margin that allows them to retain the tiebreaker despite the 95 to 76 defeat suffered this weekend in Lugo.
