A fire declared on Friday night in the occupied block of Ferran Puig avenue, 13 and 15, in Girona left thirteen people attended for smoke inhalation and forced the mobilization of six Bombers units. The alert was received around 2230 hours and the fire was extinguished twenty minutes later.
The fire affected two rooms of the property, which were completely damaged. The causes, for now, are unknown. During the intervention, emergency services attended to thirteen people for smoke inhalation caused by the fire.
Six medical transfers and seven discharges on site
Of the total affected, four people were transferred to Josep Trueta hospital and another two to CAP Güell. The remaining seven were discharged at the scene, once assessed by the medical teams.
The operation focused on this block of flats located next to the Ferran Puig ring road, in an area very close to the train tracks. The intervention allowed the fire to be extinguished in a few minutes, although the structural damage obliged to adopt additional security measures.
A dwelling on the third floor sealed
Security forces sealed off the dwelling on the third floor, 3rd 2nd, due to risk of roof collapse. That was the most immediate measure after the fire was extinguished, given the possibility of new detachments within the property.
The building remains occupied since the summer of 2024. In parallel, the City Council maintains negotiations with the property to address the demolition of the entire block, an action foreseen in the General Plan in force since 2002 due to the proximity of the homes to the railway tracks. The fire now reopens attention on the state of a property awaiting an urban planning solution for years.
