The Girona Municipal Theatre will bring eight free circus, dance, physical theatre, and clown shows to six city neighborhoods this summer as part of a new edition of the Escènit cycle. The program will kick off on Friday, June 26, and continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays until July 23.
The cycle focuses on public spaces and, at the same time, reserves a significant portion of the program for companies from Girona and its surrounding regions. In addition to this local presence, there will be two French groups and several proposals linked to support programs for creation and a European cross-border cooperation project.
Escènit will distribute eight free performances between Barri Vell and Sant Narcís
The performances will be distributed across Barri Vell, Eixample Nord, Sant Daniel, Santa Eugènia, Fontajau, and Sant Narcís. All activities will be free of charge.
In addition to the start scheduled for Friday, June 26, the calendar will include performances two days a week until July 23. The format extends the programming beyond the city center and distributes the events across different points in Girona.
Quim Ayats i Bartrina, deputy mayor and councilor for Culture of the Girona City Council, framed the cycle within the municipal objective of bringing performing arts to public spaces and making them accessible to all citizens.
"The Escènit cycle is a testament to the city's commitment to opening doors to culture and making it present in public spaces, bringing performing arts closer to all citizens. This cycle allows us to bring contemporary and quality proposals to the neighborhoods, while supporting local talent and creating spaces for meeting and participation through culture" - Quim Ayats i Bartrina, deputy mayor and councilor for Culture, Girona City Council
La Copa will host the preview of Bleu Électrique
The program will feature Girona companies Fèmut and Cia Totapedra, along with Colectivo Ameno and La Côtte Folle, groups with members from the city or Girona's regions. The program is completed by French companies Le G. Bistaki and Cirque Pardi.
One of the highlights of the cycle will be the preview of Bleu Électrique at La Copa de Girona, by Cirque Pardi. Also featured in the program are Clam, Emboscadura, Entre bous i vaques, Pífia, and Tancarville.
Part of these proposals arrives at the festival with prior support from public programs. Clam and Emboscadura have a Girona Crea scholarship, while Pífia has received artistic support from the Creation Support Program of the Girona Municipal Theater.
Four productions are integrated into the European project EKO Pirineus del Circ
Four shows are part of EKO Pirineus del Circ, the European cross-border cooperation project to which Tancarville, Bleu Électrique, Entre bous i vaques, and Pífia are linked. Girona participates in this initiative through Transversal, a network made up of 10 medium-sized cities in Catalonia.
Entre bous i vaques will also incorporate five women from the senior group of the theater school El Galliner, a detail that connects the professional programming with the scenic participation of city collectives.
