Girona will face traffic restrictions on its accesses this Thursday morning due to the mobilizations called by teaching staff. The cuts are planned from 10:00 a.m. and will last until past noon, with main impacts on Avinguda de França and on the Barcelona road.

The day of protest will start earlier, at 8:00 hours, with a slow march called from the Viena of Salt. The planned route will run along the C 65, the road that connects the AP 7 with the Costa Brava, up to the Mas Gri roundabout, on the Barcelona road. Participants are called to maintain the action for one hour and then join one of the foot columns that will depart from Sarrià de Ter and l'Avellaneda.

Two columns on foot will converge in the center of Girona

The first column will depart at 10:00 hours from the Barcelona roundabout of l'Avellaneda, next to Leroy Merlin. From there it will travel along Barcelona street until reaching the Marquès de Camps square at 12:00 hours. In this itinerary, the participation of workers from Ripollès, la Garrotxa, el Pla de l'Estany and Alt Empordà is planned.

The second column will also start at 10:00 AM from the dels Troncs roundabout in Sarrià de Ter, in front of the Esclat supermarket. The route will pass through the avenida de França, Pont de la Barca, paseo de la Devesa and Ferran Puig roundabout, also arriving at Marquès de Camps square at 12:00 PM. In this group, the presence of workers from Gironès, Baix Empordà and Selva is expected.

Once the different columns are united, the mobilization will continue with a third march from Marquès de Camps square along d'Álvarez de Castro street, l'Hospital square and Pompeu Fabra square.

Concentration in front of the headquarters of Education

The final concentration is convened in Pompeu Fabra square starting at 12:30 p.m. At that point, a protest is planned in front of the Generalitat headquarters, where the Serveis Territorials d'Educació are located.

During the mobilization, access to Plaça Catalunya from Jaume I will be cut off, according to the forecast disseminated by the organizers.

Minimum services and union demands

The convening unions are USTEC STEs, Professors de Secundària, La Intersindical and CGT. They have set minimum services of one teacher out of every three in each educational center.

These organizations consider insufficient the agreement signed between the Govern and CCOO and UGT. Among their main demands, according to USTEC STEs, are the recovery of purchasing power, salary update, the reduction of ratios, the expansion of staff, the reduction of bureaucracy, staff stability, the negotiation of curricula and the improvement of conditions for educational support staff and labor staff.

The protest will continue this Friday with a new day of strike in the educational centers of Girona. The mobilization of that day will move to Barcelona, where teachers from all Catalan demarcations are called.
