The Club Nàutic l"Escala will host from June 7 to 13 the European Championship of the International Moth class, an event that will bring to the Costa Brava 75 boats from 17 countries and three continents. The competition will gather in the waters of l"Escala one of the most technical and fastest disciplines of dinghy sailing.

The participants will compete with Moth foiling boats, designed to sail on hydrofoils. This system allows reducing friction with the water and reaching high speeds, even with moderate wind, in a format that combines technical precision and high performance.

The boats are single-seater, very light, and technically demanding. They incorporate adjustable hydrofoils that lift the hull out of the water, which allows for high-speed navigation and turns each race into a particularly spectacular format also for the public.

First test in April before the European

As part of the championship preparation, the Club Nàutic l"Escala will organize the Moth Test Event 1 – Moth Costa Brava Training Camp from April 10 to 12. This first official test will serve for the sailors to train in real competition conditions in the same environment where weeks later the European Championship will be held.

The objective of this preliminary test is for the participants to familiarize themselves with the wind patterns of l'Escala and with the regatta areas planned for the continental event. The program will include training in the water and regatta simulations, with the club and the competition field as a central part of the preparation.

High-tech vessels

The Moth class is considered one of the most advanced in current sailing due to the level of technical development it incorporates. Hydrofoils allow reducing friction with the water and boosting the performance of the boats, a characteristic that has turned this modality into a showcase of innovation within nautical sport.

From the club, they also highlight the visual appeal of these regattas, in which the boats sail elevated above the surface. The organization defines them as a unique spectacle for both sailors and the public, in a week that will place l'Escala on the European light sailing calendar.
