The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested in Rubí a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman for their alleged involvement in the theft of 71 mobile phones in nightclubs, leisure environments, and major festivals in Catalonia. The investigation places the start of the activity attributed to them on March 1, 2025.
The investigation started when agents detected that a high number of mobile phones stolen in leisure spaces from different points of the territory were emitting signal from the same address in Rubí. The investigators repeatedly located an apartment on Catalunya avenue as the last GPS location of several terminals a few hours after the thefts.
A same pattern in night venues and major festivals
The Mossos maintain that the events followed a repeated pattern in nightclubs, major festivals and similar environments in several municipalities of Catalonia. Among the places where robberies linked to this couple have been detected are Mataró, Salt, Igualada, Mollerussa, Lleida, Tarragona, Reus and Salou.
According to the police, most of the victims were young girls previously selected by the suspects. The vast majority of the stolen terminals were of the same high-end brand. In most cases, they were thefts, although on some occasions the investigated individuals would also have acted by means of snatches.
The police also attribute to the couple an operation based on movements with rental vehicles that they changed weekly to move around the municipalities where they allegedly operated.
Intercepted in the early morning on Catalunya Avenue
The operation to detain them was carried out on March 1 around 05:00 hours. The agents intercepted them when they were parking the vehicle on Catalunya avenue in Rubí. In the search of the car they located four mobile phones which, always according to the investigation, had just been stolen from a nightclub in Mataró.
That same day, the Mossos searched the couple's home in Rubí. Inside they found false documentation, 250 euros, a mobile phone and a notebook with notes about phone prices and dates of major festivals in Catalonia.
71 mobile phones attributed and 23 antecedents between both
With the seized material and previous efforts, the investigators maintain that they have been able to prove the participation of the two arrested individuals in the theft of 71 mobile phones. Between them, they accumulate 23 police records.
The detainees were placed at the disposal of the court on March 3 in the Rubí court, while the police investigation keeps under focus the thefts detected in municipalities like Salt and the rest of the localities where the same pattern has been followed.
