Seven of the 21 councilors elected in May 2023 in the Salt City Council have already resigned their seat so far in the term, a period marked by changes in four of the five groups with municipal representation. The only party that maintains its initial composition intact is Vox.
The most politically significant move occurred in Esquerra Republicana, after Jordi Viñas left the mayor's office and the council in December 2024. Viñas, head of the list and mayor until then, maintains his seat as a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia. His departure made way for Cristina Alarcón, who occupied the number two spot on the list and assumed the mayor's office. To fill the vacancy left by Alarcón in the plenary, Regina Bover entered as a new councilor.
Junts and PSC have remade part of their groups
Junts per Salt adds two departures during the legislature and has thus renewed half of its municipal representation. The first occurred at the end of 2023, when Robert Fàbregas, number one on the list and spokesperson for the group, left the position for personal reasons. Fàbregas had been a councilor between 2003 and 2015 and, in this period, was in charge of the area of Social Rights and Services for People. His replacement was taken over by Fanny Carabellido.
The second departure in Junts arrived in autumn of 2024, with the resignation of Mireia Valentí. The councilwoman alleged a change in her work circumstances that prevented her from dedicating to the position the time she considered necessary. Her position was taken by Judit Dalmau, sixth on the electoral list.
The PSC has also had to introduce two changes in its bench. Ángeles Gemma Núñez left her seat for professional reasons and was replaced by Ivan Rodríguez. To that replacement was added that of Lluïsa Blanch, who left the council in February 2024 to represent the Girona socialists in the Senate. Blanch had been part of the plenary since 2019 and her seat was occupied by Lovepreet Singh Kaur, seventh on the list.
La CUP renews its two initial councilors
The CUP is the group that has completely changed its two original representatives. Cris Sibina resigned from the seat in the April 2024 plenary session and was replaced by Roger Bigas. Now the second substitution has been confirmed.
At the plenary session of March 2026, Àlex Sarrado, spokesperson for the CUP and also regional councilor in Gironès, announced that he was leaving the position. The councilor justified his decision due to "a recent change in my employment situation that entails less availability for me" and maintained that he was adopting this decision "for responsibility with the project and with the institution."
"I take this step out of responsibility with the project and with the institution" - Àlex Sarrado, spokesperson for the CUP
In the next plenary session, Marta Guillaumes will take office as the new councilwoman. Guillaumes had already been part of the council years ago.
No changes in the majority of the plenary
Despite the succession of resignations and substitutions, the correlation of forces in the Salt plenary has not been altered. The replacements have affected the internal balance of the groups and the personal composition of the council, but not the distribution of councillors resulting from the 2023 municipal elections.
