The Department of Business and Labor has established 66% of minimum services on the Rodalies lines during peak hours of the strike called by railway unions next week. This measure affects Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, and the rest of the municipalities connected by the network, where train traffic is essential for thousands of daily commutes
Minimum services reinforced in the most critical periods
The periods considered of high attendance have been set between 6:00 AM and 9:30 AM in the morning and from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the afternoon. During these periods, two out of every three usual trains will run, according to the official resolution. The objective is to guarantee mobility in the accesses to Barcelona and the main interchange nodes in Girona and Tarragona.
Significant reduction off-peak
Outside of these stretches, the minimum services will drop to 33%. This implies that only one out of every three trains will be operational during the rest of the day, which will predictably affect users who travel during intermediate or night hours
Impact on personnel and operations
The strike affects all personnel providing service at the railway company. In the operational management centers, the presence of a minimum of one out of every three workers will be guaranteed to maintain control and safety of the circulation
"The interruption of train service would affect constitutionally protected goods and rights" - Spokesperson, Department of Business and Labor
The administration justifies the decision of reinforced minimum services due to the need to protect fundamental rights such as movement and free circulation, especially in metropolitan areas where the train is the main means of transport. The resolution affects the entire staff and all Rodalies routes, so users are advised to consult the schedules and plan their trips in advance.
